Urania (2023) is a woven astrological cloak investiture made from Byzantine mosaic documentation found in ritualistic spaces. Specific mosaics are created to represent and reflect thesky, using luminous tiles of blues, greens and gold to instil a sense of wonder when worshiperslooked up to the heavens. Swinburn has woven these representations of the celestial heavens into aceremonial garment, for Urania, Muse of Astrology, who dressed in a star-embellished cloak, foretells destinies and travels the sky. In accordance with Urania’s beliefs that connection to the stars elevates the spirit to heavenly heights, this astrological cloak guards the spirit and acts as avessel for navigating the cosmos.
