Dates: April 5 – September 22, 2024
Space: Carré d'art | Musée d'art contemporain de Nîmes
« Sedimentary Partitions » is part of the Arles 2024 programming within the Grand Arles Express and will be on display until September 22.
Alassan Diawara has created a new photographic series by exploring Nîmes and its surroundings over several months, meeting many people along the way. His photographs are presented in dialogue with a body of work by Zineb Sedira, which addresses themes of familial and cultural transmission. The artist, who represented France at the Venice Biennale in 2022, also mentored Alassan Diawara in developing his project. The installation, presented at Carré d’Art – Musée d’art contemporain de Nîmes and collaboratively conceived by the two artists, offers new perspectives on how stories and cultures are constructed across generations.
During the triennale, some of Alassan Diawara’s images are also displayed in the public space on the facade of Nîmes-Centre train station. His images explore – through snapshots of life – youth, intergenerational connections within families or communities, and seek to capture a certain essence of the Gard and Camargue regions’ imagination.
