L’Esprit du geste - The Spirit of Gesture - , the inaugural exhibition of the
Institut des Cultures d'Islam' new spaces on Rue Léon, brings together around fifteen international artists, including our artists Sara Ouhaddou and Mbarek Bouhchichi, who explore and reinterpret gestures, motifs, and materials transmitted through centuries and migrations.
Collecting techniques and stories from artisans and homes, the artists center humanity, time, and nature in their creative process. This exploration of the spirit of gesture results in surprising and poetic aesthetic fusions, paying homage to the syncretism of Islamic cultures and diverse ancestral traditions: Persian, Indian, Ottoman, Arab, Berber, Latin, African, Tatar...
Multigenerational and multidisciplinary, the exhibition offers a polyphonic, sensory experience, with works that blend painting, installation, sculpture, choreography, tapestry, and architecture, inviting a connection to the world.
The program features exilic music in the patio, storytelling walks, a ritual performance in the hammam, films, conferences, and workshops for young audiences...
