Les mains noires (Black Hands), 2016
Terracotta
Questioning the relationship with the earth that both connects and divides, the clay—moulded in the palm of the hand—becomes a negative sculpture of the hand itself. Bouhchichi collaborated particularly with Black individuals, who were asked to reproduce this gesture, resulting in an installation that takes the form of a heap, a mass, where the notion of individuality dissolves.
Curated by Samer Yamani, the exhibition brings together Amine Asselman, Sama El Sake, Zena Assi, M’barek Bouhchichi, Thomas Modeen, Mary-Lynn Massoud, Saud Alsaleh, Hana El-Sagini, Ibrahim Said
