Catalina Swinburn

"Analepsis"

March 6 to April 6, 2025 at La Pelanda - Mattatoio, Rome

Catalina Swinburn is one of the artists featured in the exhibition Exprimo. Her work translates into key messages and universal concepts such as: sustainability, identity, gender equality and globalization. Using weaving as a metaphor for resistance, her works with paper bring us closer to our cultural identity and offer an alternative vision to the language of art as a vehicle of consciousness; opening a dialogue between conservatism and innovation, between continuity and transmutation.

In the exhibition she presents the video "Analepsis", in which the artist hand-weaves the ballots of the 2020 Chilean national referendum, called to amend the country's Constitution. This fabric is made with a technique that the artist developed, inspired by sacred ruins and ancient textile textures used in Andean cultures.

Exprimo, curated by Chiara Nicolini, is open to the public until April 6 at the Mattatoio.
